Fashion Technicians
I’m obsessed with how modern technology is used in fashion, in particular, I love fashion designers like Iris Van Herpen, Hussein Chalayan, and Ying Gao. They are celebrated for their abilities to push boundaries and create bold garments through the incorporation of technology and innovation. My goal with Fashion Technicians was to create a book that exudes the same originality and elegance as their masterpieces.
3D-Printed Bookcovers
Can a book cover be 3D-printed? 3D-printing is a key technique of Iris Van Herpen’s designs, so I wanted to bring this element to the cover – bringing a unique physical experience to the readers at their first touches. I used SketchUp to mock the front and back covers, as well as the spine. I printed several iterations to determine the appropriate thickness to apply the hardcover bookbinding technique.
Glow-in-the-Dark Pages
The folios are all french folded, which allowed me to add an accent color inside the folds. Inspired by Ying Gao’s love for experimenting with glow-in-the-dark elements, I used glow-in-the-dark paper to create an elegant hidden accent that becomes visible when you turn the pages.
